What we do

Four programmes in two municipalities, since 1994.

Health, education, early childhood and community. Always with the public system, never instead of it: we support the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education services where they do not reach.

Where

Antigua Guatemala and San Pedro Yepocapa

Two municipalities fifty kilometres apart. Community days also reach other communities in Acatenango, Patzicía and Yepocapa.

The programmes

What we do, programme by programme

Health

Rekko 8 in Antigua and Rekko 7 in San Pedro Yepocapa: primary care with specialties for people who find no answer at the public health centre and cannot afford private care. Patients pay a token fee; those who cannot are exempt.

Education

In San Pedro Yepocapa, where more than half the population has not finished primary school, the Escuelita Gian Carlo Noris and the scholarship programme accompany children from preschool to secondary school, and work to reduce drop-out.

See Education

Early childhood

A five-year programme so that children in Yepocapa grow up in a safe, protective and stimulating environment, with families, schools and the health centre. Piloted in 2025, it starts in full in 2026.

Community

Outreach days in the communities with the Ministry of Health and other organisations, and training of local health staff so that what starts with Rekko stays in the community.

How we work

Four rules that do not change

Complement, never replace

Agreements with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education. We refer to the public health centre and take its referrals.

Patients sustain the clinics

Every consultation has a token fee; those who cannot pay are exempt. It pays most of the clinics’ running costs; donations cover the rest and the programmes without fees.

Local staff, volunteers who add

The team is Guatemalan. International volunteers, clinicians and teachers, reinforce for a season and leave; the programme stays.

Measure and report

Each programme has indicators, an annual report and, when there is a funder, technical and financial reporting.
