Three weeks that stay.
Every year health and education professionals come to reinforce the clinics and the Escuelita. You leave; what you taught and whom you treated stays. In 2025 there were fourteen.
Who we look for
Physiotherapy
The most requested profile: five physiotherapists in 2025, in coordination with physiotherapy schools in Spain.
Medicine and nursing
General medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology; nursing for community outreach days and the community health programme.
Teaching
Preschool and primary teachers for the Escuelita and afternoon tutoring; also theatre, music and art.
Communication and projects
Photography, social media, proposal writing: profiles that help tell and fund the work.
What you need
- A degree and, where applicable, professional registration in your country
- Enough Spanish to treat patients or teach
- Three weeks minimum; better four or more
- Travel, insurance and accommodation at your own cost; we help you find a place in Antigua or Yepocapa
- A criminal record certificate for working with minors
How it works
- Write to usProfile, possible dates and motivation, to voluntarios@rekko.org. The volunteer coordinator in Antigua replies within a few days.
- A video callTo tell you about daily life, confirm dates and see where you fit best: Rekko 8, Rekko 7 or the Escuelita.
- Arrive and startInduction on day one with the team; you work within the clinic's or school's hours, with Rekko staff beside you.
- Leave, and stay in touchA short report at the end and, if you wish, a place on the friends of Rekko list.
What we do not do
We do not organise short stays or "voluntourism": one week helps neither patients nor children. If you have little time, you can help in another way: with a donation or by organising a fundraiser among friends and colleagues. We do not accept unqualified profiles for clinical or teaching tasks. We publish photos of patients and children ourselves, with consent and care: if you would like some for your social media, ask us.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a fee?
Rekko charges no volunteering fee. Travel, insurance, accommodation and food are at your own cost.
Can I come as a couple or a group?
Yes, if each person has a useful profile. Student groups are coordinated with their university.
Is there volunteering in Spain or Italy?
Yes: translations, events, support to Rekko Ibérica and Rekko ETS. Write to us and we put you in touch.
Do I need vaccines or a visa?
Check with your international vaccination centre. EU citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days in Guatemala.
